 BIOGRAPHY

Since joining the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in 1973, Francis Amar has experienced a succession of field assignments in Pakistan, Chile, Thailand, Chad, Angola, and Romania (among many others) interspersed with Headquarters positions. He has successively been a Political Advisor to the Director of Operations (1979-1981), Deputy Head of the Central Tracing Agency (1981-1986), has run a department in charge of field personnel (1986-1988), and has held such positions as Deputy Delegate-General for Europe and North America (1988-1992) and Delegate-General for the Americas (1992-1998). After 5 years as the Head of the International Organisation Division, he went back to a challenging field assignment as the Head of a Regional Delegation for South East Asia and Japan, based in Kuala Lumpur. After taking an early retirement at the end of 2005, Francis continued to train himself in several Human Resources related fields and works now as an independant Certified Professional Coach (IDC / ICF) and Human Resources Consultant.
