7 minutes to Uzés, medium size medieval town and seat of France's Premier Duchy, a famous saturday market, and a Classic Musical Festival in July. A friendly nine hole golf course. An unavoidable visit to its “Haribo” museum and sweets factory...
20 minutes to "Pont du Gard" the world's largest intact Roman Aqueduct 2000 year old.
40 minutes to Avignon - famous "Palais des Papes" and of course its well sung "Bridge"....as well as its renowned summer festival of street theatre and Opera.
30 minutes to Nimes - intact sumptuous Roman Arena. The "Maison Carre" and exciting Ferias and Festivals.
45 minutes to Orange Antique Roman Theatre with its wonderful opera season.
50 minutes to Arles (Van Gogh !) , another arena, bull fights and Gypsy fiestas.
50 minutes to Les Baux de Provence.
1 hour to Camargue with its wild horses and bulls, long sandy beaches, and Flamingos. Seaside Stes Marie de La Mer with the yearly gypsy pilgrimage festival of the Virgin.
1 hour to L’Isle sur La Sorgue – its very famous Sunday antique market.
1 and a half hour to the Luberon - Peter Mayle “Une année en Provence” country with lovely villages among which "Gordes", "Roussillon", "Menerbes" and "Lacoste" famous for the Marquis de Sade castle.
1 and a half hour to Aix-en-Provence, the capital of southern Provence. Wonderful bistros, fountains, shops, music festivals and daily markets.
Selection of possible activities for the young and not so young :
- Visit to the "Haribo" museum and sweets factory.
- Horse and poney rides near the "Pont du Gard" (tours in the countryside and lessons).
- Canoe-kayak in the Gardon or Ardèche rivers (adults supervision).
- Swimming (and fishing) in the Gardon or the Ardèche.
- Fishing in a reserved pond located 5 minutes drive away from the house.
- Bicycle rides (2 adult bikes at your disposal. Possibilies to rent other bicycles in Uzès.
- Beautiful drive to Camargue (slighly more than 1h drive): horseback riding, sea bathing, walks around Stes Maries or Aigues Mortes.
- Magnificent and well equipped sand beaches south-west of Camargue near Montpellier.
- There is west of Uzès on the road to Alès (approx. 25 minutes away) an amusement parc with swimming pools and water slides, quite fun for a day out !
- Thematic walks.
- Golf (9 holes in Uzès; two 18 holes in Nimes and several others near Avignon.
- Cinema and shopping.
- Public swimming pool in Uzès.
- Wine tasting ! Lots of delicious and inexpensive local "Coteau du Languedoc" or "Côtes du Rhône".
- Many music, theater and danse festivals in the region during the spring and summer seasons.
